
Business Administration
The Pamplin College of Business has introduced a new Professional MBA program starting in the
fall of 2006. Classes will be held on Friday and Saturday only and will alternate between the VT
Richmond and Roanoke Centers. Students will be enrolled in cohorts and are expected to
complete the program in two years. The comprehensive courses are scheduled over 8 terms of 3
months each. At the end of each term, an exam week is scheduled and those exams can be

Educational Leadership and Policy Studies
An Ed.D program is designed to prepare
educational administrators for leadership roles in school systems and
related agencies. Coursework includes leadership and policy studies,
advanced school law, historical foundations of educational administration,
advanced school finance, community and interagency collaboration, planning
educational facilities, and organization and delivery of instructional
services.

Instructional Technology
The Instructional Technology (IT) Master's
Degree program offered through the Department of Teaching and Learning at
Virginia Tech is specifically designed to meet the needs of practicing
professional educators as they confront the increasingly important role
technology is playing within local, state, and national educational
systems. The Instructional Technology Master's program (ITMA) is a
rigorous graduate program designed to prepare you to be a professional
instructional technologist. Because this is a distance program, all
courses are offered electronically via the World Wide Web. Depending on
the nature of the course, supporting materials may consist of Web-based
tutorials, textbooks, CDs, or other appropriate materials.

Career & Technical Education
A Master of Science in Career and Technical
Education is offered via distance learning with two-way audio and video
and web-based courses. It is designed to develop instructional leaders in
the field of career and technical education. The program focuses on
developing expertise in contextual learning, integration of CTE with core
academics, philosophies regarding the role of CTE in public education,
research application in the classroom, diversity, and instructional
technology. Emphasis areas include agriculture, business, family and
consumer sciences, health occupations, marketing, technology, trade and
industrial, and training and development.
Licensure Courses
The Career and Technical Education Program
in the Department of Teaching and Learning offers a series of multimedia
licensure courses for practicing teachers on provisional licenses.
Self-paced courses are available each semester.

Engineering
The Commonwealth Graduate Engineering
Program is a distance learning graduate program sponsored by five
universities in the State of Virginia: Virginia Tech (VT), University of
Virginia (UVA), Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Old Dominion
University (ODU) and George Mason University (GMU). The CGEP offers
individuals an opportunity to earn a master's degree part time through
traditional face-to-face instruction as well as two-way video graduate
classes. Virginia Tech's offers graduate degree programs in Civil and
Environmental, Electrical and Computer, and Industrial and Systems
Engineering.
